Mundgod, Karnataka, India – Questa mattina, mentre Sua Santità il Dalai Lama guidava con calma dal monastero di Drepung Gomang a Drepung Lachi, ha sorriso e salutato le centinaia di persone che si erano assiepate lungo la strada per accoglierlo. I corni hanno suonato per annunciare il suo arrivo, mentre nella sala delle assemblee di Drepung Lachi i monaci hanno intonato il canto di lode “Mik-tse-ma” a Jé Tsongkhapa. Indossando il cappello da Pandit, ha percorso il centro della sala, sorridendo e salutando i monaci seduti ai lati. Il Ganden Tripa, capo spirituale della tradizione Geluk, si è fatto avanti per accoglierlo. Ha preso posto sul trono.

Mentre veniva cantato un ‘Inno a Jamyang Chöjé, Tashi Palden’, fondatore del monastero di Drepung e quindi primo detentore del trono, l’attuale Drepung Tripa (detentore del trono di Drepung), Togden Rinpoché, ha offerto a Sua Santità un mandala e delle rappresentazioni del corpo, della parola e della mente del Buddha.

Successivamente, è stata recitata una preghiera poetica del secondo discepolo principale di Tsongkhapa, Khedrup-jé, conosciuta come “Voce di Brahma” (Palden Yönten). L’opera fu composta su richiesta dei dotti discepoli di Gyaltsab-jé quando questi salì al Trono di Ganden alla scomparsa di Jé Tsongkhapa. Il Drepung Tripa ha poi donato a Sua Santità una statua di Jamyang Chöjé in segno di gratitudine da parte dell’intera comunità monastica di Drepung. Il monastero di Ratö ha offerto una Ruota del Dharma, donata dall’Abate di Ratö e da due ex Abati in riconoscimento dei 90 anni di beneficenza di Sua Santità al mondo attraverso le sue attività altruistiche.

Vennero serviti tè e riso dolce cerimoniale.

Togden Rinpoché, il Drepung Tripa, ha letto una spiegazione della decisione del Monastero di Drepung di dichiarare Sua Santità Detentore del Trono di Drepung. Ha ricordato che, quando fondò il Monastero di Ganden, Jé Tsongkhapa dissotterrò una conchiglia bianca. Qualche tempo dopo, diede questa conchiglia al suo discepolo Jamyang Chöjé, Tashi Palden, chiedendogli di fondare un monastero. Da allora, il trono di Jamyang Chöjé è stato occupato da una serie di abati di Drepung.

Nel 1959, Sua Santità il Dalai Lama andò in esilio in India, dove ripristinò i centri di studio monastici tibetani e riaccese l’insegnamento del Buddha. Sua Santità il Dalai Lama ha affermato che all’epoca della fondazione del monastero di Drepung era Jamyang Chöjé.

“Abbiamo chiesto a Sua Santità”, ha continuato Togden Rinpoché, “di permetterci di insediarlo sul Trono d’Oro di Jamyang Chöjé. Ringraziamo Sua Santità per aver accettato la nostra richiesta. Preghiamo per la sua lunga vita e affinché ci custodisca vita dopo vita, finché non raggiungeremo l’illuminazione”.

Le preghiere per la lunga vita di Sua Santità iniziarono con l’invocazione dei Sedici Arhat o Anziani, esseri che il Buddha incaricò di proteggere il suo insegnamento. Il Drepung Tripa fece un’offerta preliminare del mandala, dopodiché il Ganden Tripa, Sharpa Chöjé, Bönpo Menri Trizin, gli abati dei monasteri di Gomang e Loseling, gli ex Drepung Tripa, gli ex abati di Loseling e Gomang e alcuni patroni si avvicinarono a Sua Santità per ottenere la sua benedizione. December 24, 2025. Mundgod, Karnataka, India – This morning, as His Holiness the Dalai Lama drove sedately from Drepung Gomang Monastery to Drepung Lachi he smiled and waved at the hundreds of people who lined the road to greet him. Horns played to indicate his arrival, while in the Drepung Lachi Assembly Hall monks chanted the ‘Mik-tse-ma’ praise to Jé Tsongkhapa. Donning his Pandit’s hat, he walked up the middle of the hall, smiling and waving at the monks seated on either side. The Ganden Tripa, Spiritual Head of the Geluk tradition, stepped forward to welcome him. He took his seat on the throne.

As a ‘Praise to Jamyang Chöjé, Tashi Palden’, the founder of Drepung Monastery and so its first Throneholder, was chanted, the current Drepung Tripa (Drepung Throneholder), Togden Rinpoché, offered His Holiness a mandala and representations of the body, speech and mind of the Buddha.

Next, a poetic prayer by Tsongkhapa’s second principal disciple, Khedrup-jé, known as ‘Voice of Brahma’ (Palden Yönten), was recited. The work was composed at the request of Gyaltsab-jé’s learned disciples when he ascended to the Ganden Throne on the passing away of Jé Tsongkhapa. The Drepung Tripa then presented a statue of Jamyang Chöjé to His Holiness as a mark of gratitude from the entire Drepung monastic community. Ratö Monastery offered a Dharma Wheel, which was presented by the Abbot of Ratö and two former Abbots in recognition of His Holiness’s 90 years bringing benefit to the world through his altruistic activities.

Tea and ceremonial sweet rice were served.

Togden Rinpoché, the Drepung Tripa, read out an explanation of Drepung Monastery’s decision to declare His Holiness the Drepung Throneholder. He recalled that when founding Ganden Monastery, Jé Tsongkhapa unearthed a white conch. Sometime later he gave this conch to his disciple Jamyang Chöjé, Tashi Palden, asking him to found a monastery. Since then, Jamyang Chöjé’s throne has been occupied by a series of Drepung Abbots.

In 1959, His Holiness the Dalai Lama came into exile in India where he re-established the Tibetan monastic centres of learning and rekindled the teaching of the Buddha. Mundgod, Karnataka, India – Today, His Holiness the Dalai Lama attended the Ganden Ngamchö ceremony marking the parinirvana of Jé Tsongkhapa at Drepung Monastery at the request of the entire Gelug tradition. On this auspicious occasion, the Gelugpa Buddhist Cultural Society presented His Holiness with a commemorative award in honour of the 51st anniversary of his being formally awarded the degree of Geshé Lharampa.

Once His Holiness was seated on the throne, the Ganden Tripa offered him a ceremonial khata — silk scarf. The chant master recited Tsongkhapa’s ‘In Praise of Dependent Origination,’ following which tea and fruit were served. Next, the Tsari Tsog Offering — the Ganachakra Offering according to the Sutra tradition — was made, after which the Ganden Tripa, Jangtsé Chöjé, and Sharpa Chöjé offered the Thirty-Seven Heaped Mandala Offering. Tea and ceremonial sweet rice were then distributed.

Geshé Jangchub Sangyé, Abbot of Ganden Shartsé Monastery, read out a written explanation of the purpose of the commemorative award being given to His Holiness on behalf of all members of the Gelugpa tradition. He mentioned that as His Holiness celebrates his 90th year millions of devotees around the world are observing this auspicious milestone. Accordingly, the Gelugpa Buddhist Cultural Society was requested to organize a special event.

In this Year of Compassion, which includes the 66th anniversary of the holding of his Lharampa Geshé examination in Lhasa in 1959, the 51st anniversary of the formal presentation of his Lharampa Geshé degree in 1974, and the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the Central Board Examination of Gelugpa Universities in India in 1975, His Holiness presided over this grand celebration of the Ganden Ngamchö. On this occasion, a newly crafted Lharampa Geshé Award, made of gold and silver on behalf of the Lhadhan Chötrul Monlam Chenmo Trust and the Gelugpa Buddhist Cultural Society, was respectfully presented to His Holiness in gratitude and reverence by the Ganden Tripa, Jangtsé Chöjé, and Sharpa Chöjé. Al termine della cerimonia, è stata intonata la preghiera Mig-tse-ma e il Ganden Tripa, Jangtsé Chöjé, Sharpa Chöjé e gli abati dei monasteri di Drepung Gomang e Drepung Loseling, con incenso e khata nelle mani, hanno guidato una processione che ha scortato rispettosamente Sua Santità ai suoi alloggi privati.

Mundgod, Karnataka, India – Oggi Sua Santità il Dalai Lama ha partecipato alla cerimonia Ganden Ngamchö che celebra il parinirvana di Jé Tsongkhapa al Monastero di Drepung, su richiesta dell’intera tradizione Gelug. In questa occasione propizia, la Società Culturale Buddhista Gelugpa ha consegnato a Sua Santità un premio commemorativo in onore del 51° anniversario del conferimento ufficiale del titolo di Geshé Lharampa.

Una volta che Sua Santità ha preso posto sul trono, il Ganden Tripa gli ha offerto una khata cerimoniale, ovvero una sciarpa di seta. Il maestro di canto ha recitato “In lode del sorgere dipendente” di Tsongkhapa, dopodiché sono stati serviti tè e frutta. Successivamente, è stata fatta l’offerta Tsari Tsog, l’offerta Ganachakra secondo la tradizione Sutra, dopodiché il Ganden Tripa, Jangtsé Chöjé e Sharpa Chöjé hanno fatto l’offerta dei Mandala dai Trentasetti Cumuli. Sono stati poi distribuiti tè e riso dolce cerimoniale.
Geshé Jangchub Sangyé, abate del Monastero di Ganden Shartsé, a nome di tutti i membri della tradizione Gelugpa, ha letto le motivazioni del conferimento a Sua Santità del premio commemorativo. Ha menzionato che, mentre Sua Santità celebra il suo novantesimo anno, milioni di devoti in tutto il mondo stanno osservando questo importante traguardo. Di conseguenza, è stato chiesto alla Società Culturale Buddhista Gelugpa di organizzare un evento speciale.
