Set 24th, 2020 by admin

Read the rest of this entry »

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: Conversation about Happiness, Humor and Compassion
Set 23rd, 2020 by admin

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: Our eco-systems are telling us we have to take care of this planet, climate change is bringing about disastrous fires and floods that are beyond our control. It is very serious.”

September 22, 2020. Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India – This morning His Holiness the Dalai Lama was joined in conversation via video link by Eugenio Derbez, a Mexican actor, comedian and filmmaker. Derbez wished His Holiness a good morning and told him that words couldn’t express his excitement or the honor he felt to be speaking to him.

It’s morning here,” His Holiness replied, “so I’m fresh, but you must be quite sleepy.”

Derbez asked His Holiness to begin by telling him about a day in the life of the Dalai Lama.

There’s nothing special, I’m just a Buddhist monk who studies Buddhist philosophy. I follow the Vinaya or monastic discipline of the Pali Tradition and in addition, I study according to the Sanskrit tradition. I don’t just rely on faith, but on experiment and investigation.

In the 8th century, the Tibetan King invited the top scholar of Nalanda University in India to Tibet. By that time China was already a Buddhist country. The Chinese Emperor was interested in Buddhism and there were Chinese monks in Tibet. Nevertheless, the Tibetan King preferred to look to India as the source of the Buddha’s teachings. Coltivare la nostra comune umanità in mezzo all’incertezza
Set 19th, 2020 by admin

Read the rest of this entry »

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: Cultivating our Common Humanity amidst Uncertainty
Set 18th, 2020 by admin

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: “Education should include explanations of how to cultivate positive emotions on the basis of reason. Similarly, we can learn to recognise that anger is mostly just a spontaneous response to something based on a distorted view of whatever it is.”

September 17, 2020 Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India – This morning His Holiness the Dalai Lama was invited to take part in a dialogue with Prof Andreas Roepstorff of the Interacting Minds Centre, Aarhus University, Denmark on the theme ‘Cultivating our Common Humanity amidst Uncertainty’. His Holiness was welcomed by Dr Amy Cohen Varela, Chairperson, Mind and Life Europe. She thanked him for accepting the invitation and assured him that Mind & Life, Europe, is well established and is working hard to fulfil his vision. Lately this has entailed closer cooperation with colleagues in Russia. His Holiness responded by showing a photograph he keeps on his desk of Francisco Varela, Amy Cohen Varela’s late husband, who, he said, introduced him to modern science. “He was one of the people who helped develop a serious dialogue between us and modern scientists. As a result, many more modern scientists are now learning about psychology and the science of the mind. One of the things I admired and always remember about him was that he would say, ‘Now I’m wearing my scientist’s hat and, at another point, I say this with my Buddhist cap on’.”

Ven Matthieu Ricard, moderator for this session, informed His Holiness that they had four major questions about interdependence and common humanity in relation to personal feelings, such as loneliness, as well as other global issues. With regard to loneliness, Ricard reported that many people have felt uneasy in the enforced isolation that has accompanied responses to the pandemic. He asked Andreas Roepstorff to explain what he has discovered in this research. Read the rest of this entry »

His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Condolences for Smt Kapila Vatsyayan
Set 17th, 2020 by admin

September 16, 2020. Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India – On receiving news today that his old friend Kapila Vatsyayan had passed away, His Holiness the Dalai Lama wrote to her brother Shri Subash Bhashi to offer his condolences. He noted that he had known Smt Vatsyayan since his first visit to India in 1956 to participate in the 2500th Buddha Jayanti Celebrations. “I used to call her Amala (Mata-Ji) because of the motherly affection she showed me and so many other Tibetans,” he wrote. ”I have long been grateful for the personal interest she showed in the protection and preservation of Tibetan Buddhist culture. She was actively involved in the establishment of the Central Institute of Higher Tibetan Studies (CIHTS) at Sarnath, Varanasi in the early 1970s, an institution that has grown into a centre of learning well-versed in the ancient Indian wisdom of ‘Ahimsa’ and ‘Karuna’. While Secretary in the Department of Culture, GOI, she was the Chairwoman of the Board of the Management of the Institute till her retirement. I understand that she was also the current Chairperson of Tibet House, our Culture Centre in New Delhi. I consider her to have been a life-long friend of the Tibetan people.

I deeply appreciated her interest in and support for our efforts to preserve our Buddhist culture and also her forthright approach in dealing with important issues. We have kept in regular touch with each other over the years and last met in November last year in New Delhi.”

In closing, His Holiness observed that with her passing both Indians and Tibetans have lost a great friend, for she was also a towering figure in the field of Indian arts and culture. She lived a meaningful life of 92 years, during which her dedication in the service of the nation was an inspiration to all.

Set 17th, 2020 by admin

Read the rest of this entry »

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: It’s up to us, and especially politicians, to save our planet
Set 16th, 2020 by admin

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: The 7 billion human beings on Earth need a sense of universal responsibility as our central motivation to re-balance our relations with the environment.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama

Buddha was born as his mother leaned against a tree for support. He attained enlightenment seated beneath a tree and passed away as trees stood witness overhead. If Buddha were to return to our world, he would certainly be connected to the campaign to protect the environment.

Speaking for myself, I have no hesitation in supporting initiatives that help protect the environment. This is a question of survival because this beautiful blue planet is our only home.

Over the past year, millions of young brothers and sisters have been protesting, calling on political leaders to take action to combat climate change. They are helping to educate the public even as we all witness the destruction of ecosystems and the dramatic decrease in biodiversity.

I really appreciate Greta Thunberg’s efforts to raise awareness of the need to take direct action. Her effort to elevate the issue of global warming among schoolchildren is a remarkable achievement. Despite being very young, her sense of universal responsibility is wonderful. I support her “Fridays for Future” movement. Read the rest of this entry »

3 – Insegnamenti di Sua Santità il Dalai Lama sulle “37 Pratiche del Bodhisattva” ed i “3 Aspetti Principali del Sentiero”
Set 8th, 2020 by admin

Quindi, applicalo all’analisi.

Read the rest of this entry »

3- His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Teaching on 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva & 3 Principal Aspects of the Path
Set 8th, 2020 by admin

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: “When you get up in the morning, set aside half an hour or so. Usually we are preoccupied with sensory perceptions, but for half an hour or an hour, withdraw the mind from distraction by external objects. Place your attention on the mind itself. Develop an experience of its clarity and awareness. Focus on that with a calmly abiding mind. Then, apply that to analysis. This is how to examine your mind.”

September 6, 2020, Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India – Today, no sooner had His Holiness the Dalai Lama settled in his seat than a group of students at the White Tara Buddhist Center in Jakarta began to chant the ‘Heart Sutra’ in Indonesian. When they were done, His Holiness thanked them and noted that this was the third day of this set of teachings. “After I’ve read the ‘Three Principal Aspects of the Path’ I’d like to conduct a ceremony for generating bodhichitta,” he told them. “If you have representations of the objects of refuge, an image of the Buddha and so forth, well and good. Otherwise you can just visualize the Buddha in the space before you.

Today, Indonesians are the main disciples. There are many followers of Islam in your country, but the existence of the stupa at Borobudur is evidence that Buddhism once flourished there too. There are philosophical differences between our various religious traditions. Indeed, there are four schools of thought even within Buddhism. However, the practice of love and compassion, as well as tolerance and contentment, is common to all these spiritual traditions. People find these traditions and their practices helpful, so I view them all with respect. Read the rest of this entry »

2 – Insegnamenti di Sua Santità il Dalai Lama sulle “37 Pratiche del Bodhisattva” ed i “3 Aspetti Principali del Sentiero”
Set 6th, 2020 by admin

2- His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Teaching on 37 Practices of a Bodhisattva & 3 Principal Aspects of the Path
Set 6th, 2020 by admin

His Holiness the Dalai Lama: “Seeing suffering as illusory, giving generously, safeguarding ethical discipline and cultivating patience are all practices of bodhisattvas.”

September 5, 2020. Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, HP, India – This morning, His Holiness the Dalai Lama once again took his seat in his residence before the camera and screens that are integral to making this virtual teaching possible. Monks in Thailand proceeded to chant verses from the ‘Mangala Sutta’. When they were finished, a group of monks and nuns in Vietnam led a recitation of the ‘Heart Sutra’ in typical Vietnamese style, to the rhythmic beat of a wooden fish.

Today is the second day of our teaching,” His Holiness began. “I’m a Buddhist practitioner, a follower of the Buddha, a monk in the Mulasarvastivadin tradition that was established in Tibet by the great Abbot Shantarakshita. There are different vinaya, or monastic discipline, lineages. In China the Dharmagupta tradition is observed. There are minor differences between these traditions, but the major precepts are the same. Read the rest of this entry »

Set 5th, 2020 by admin

Read the rest of this entry »
