July 29, 2022. Leh, Ladakh, UT, India – As soon as His Holiness the Dalai Lama reached the pavilion at the teaching ground, Chhering Dorjey Lakruk, Vice President of the Ladakh Buddhist Association (LBA) made the customary offering of a mandala and other representatives presented silk scarves to him. Chanting of the ‘Prayer of Three Continuous Practices’ was followed by a recitation of the ‘Heart Sutra’.

His Holiness informed the public that since today is the first day of the sixth month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, early this morning he offered prayers and offerings to Palden Lhamo. He then led the congregation in reciting a prayer in praise of the female Dharma Protector that he had composed.

Turning to Shantideva’s ‘Entering the Way of a Bodhisattva’ His Holiness explained that it is an effective text to follow if you wish to lead a meaningful life.

Tibetans and people of the Himalayan region are familiar with mantras such the six-syllable mantra of Avalokiteshvara (Om Mani Padme Hung) and mantra of Arya Tara (Om Taré Tuttaré Turé Svaha), but they should also consider themselves fortunate and try to lead a meaningful life by being warm-hearted and focussed on ultimately attaining enlightenment.

Having given a general introductory teaching yesterday, today I’ll resume my reading of the text right from the start.”

He began to read the second chapter, making the occasional comment as he gave the transmission of Shantideva’s book.

“‘Entering the Way of a Bodhisattva’ is an excellent guide to the ways to cultivate the awakening mind of bodhichitta. I keep a copy beside my bed and read it whenever I can. What’s more, people interested in learning about emptiness, will benefit from studying the ninth chapter of this book.

Followers of the Nalanda Tradition are familiar with the practice of generating the awakening mind which gives rise to both health and happiness. When we take refuge in the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha, we have to understand that the Dharma is something we must develop within so we can traverse the paths and grounds culminating in the omniscient state of Buddhahood.
Lug 30th, 2022 by admin

July 28, 2022. Leh, Ladakh, UT, India – This morning, His Holiness was driven in an open golfcart from his residence to the pavilion at the far end of the Shewatsel Teaching Ground. More than 45,000 people are estimated to have gathered to listen to his explanation of Shantideva’s ‘Entering the Way of a Bodhisattva’.

Many people thronged both sides of the road, eager to catch a glimpse of His Holiness as he passed. As he waved to them many wept with joy. Before beginning to teach, he saluted the entire gathering from the front of the stage.

His Holiness first congratulated the team of young students who were debating about the mind and mental factors as he arrived. He told them that the most effective way to study Buddhism was to explore the teachings using logic and reason, an approach derived from the Nalanda Tradition. It is this reasoned stance that has attracted the interest of scientists.

Loving-kindness is the key to happiness,” His Holiness told the crowd. “We experience it from the moment we are born and even when we reach the end of our lives, we will feel more comfortable and relaxed if we are surrounded by warm-hearted relatives and friends. In short, we are social animals and if we are warm-hearted towards others, we will lead happy lives. There is a Tibetan saying that goes, ‘Warm-heartedness leads to happiness and success’.
Lug 12th, 2022 by admin

Tashi Deleg!

“Thank You” for Greetings on my Birthday, 6th July 2022
Lug 12th, 2022 by admin

July 11, 2022. I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your warm greetings on my 87th birthday. I deeply appreciate your good wishes and consider them to be a recognition of whatever little I have been able to contribute towards developing a more peaceful society.

Your words are a firm support for my efforts to be of service to others. Your hope and confidence in me strengthens my determination to contribute to the wellbeing of the more than seven billion human beings on this planet.

My message, based on simple logical reasoning, is that compassion – caring for the wellbeing of others – is essential. Regardless of one’s beliefs, it is important to be compassionate in our everyday lives.

During our childhood, our mothers raised us with affection, nurturing us with loving kindness. By living our lives compassionately, we will be happy and will positively affect our family and friends.

Through cultivating peace of mind within ourselves, I believe that there is a real opportunity for the world to become a more peaceful place.

Today, I appeal to all my friends: whether you accept religion or not, kindly practice Compassion, that is, whenever possible please try to help others, irrespective of who they are.

That’s all I want to say today.
