September 25, 2019, New Delhi, India – This morning, His Holiness the Dalai Lama joined a number of spiritual leaders from Hindu, Muslim, Sikh, Jain and Christian traditions at the Gandhi Ashram in Delhi. They first paid their respects before Gandhi-ji’s memorial, and then planted a tree together in the courtyard outside the library to mark the occasion. His Holiness and the other spiritual leaders then assembled on the stage where Morari Bapuji yesterday began a ritual performance of the Ram Kathaa, recounting the life and deeds of Lord Ram, which will go on for nine days. Together with members of the Harijan Sevak Sangh they lit a lamp to mark the auspicious opening their interfaith gathering.

Dr. Shankar Kumar Sanyal welcomed the spiritual leaders to the ashram where Gandhi stayed and worked for the benefit of India and the whole world between 1930 and 1940. Each of the spiritual leaders spoke about the importance of cultivating religious harmony, upholding India’s ancient traditions of ‘ahimsa’ and ‘karuna’—non-violence and compassion—in addition to taking care of our planet. Representing the Hindu tradition were Sadhvi Bhagavathi Saraswati, Swami Chidanand Saraswati and Baba Ramdev. From the Shia tradition came Maulana Kokab Muharram.

Come esseri umani siamo sostanzialmente uguali. Siamo nati allo stesso modo e moriamo allo stesso modo.

Subsequently, His Holiness drove to the banks of Yamuna where, with Maharaj-ji and Swami-ji, he took part in an aarti ritual that involves the offering of light. When a journalist asked what parts of Indian culture are relevant in today’s world, His Holiness replied:

I’m convinced that cultivating India’s age-old traditions of ‘ahimsa’, non-violent conduct and ‘karuna’, its compassionate motivation, are the only way to put an end to violence in the world. As human beings we are much the same. We are born the same way and we die the same way. Therefore, it is important to pay attention to the kind of basic human values that have been cultivated in this country for thousands of years.”

Back at the ashram His Holiness inaugurated the gate to the Buddha garden that has been established there by ringing a large bell, which will eventually be hung over the entrance. He paid his respects before the statue of the Buddha, reciting following prayer: Read the rest of this entry »

Meeting with Intellectuals, Academics and Diplomats
Set 22nd, 2019 by admin

September 21, 2019, New Delhi, India – When His Holiness the Dalai Lama met with a group of about one hundred intellectuals, academics and diplomats this morning, he told them that as human beings we are the same; mentally, emotionally and physically, we are all the same. We have the same kind of brain and the same quality of intelligence. What’s more we all want to live a happy life free from suffering. “These days, scientists tell us that basic human nature is compassionate,” His Holiness explained. “We are social animals who depend on the community in which we live. Before they go to school children are open and friendly to each other. They don’t care what religion or nationality their companions belong to, so long as they play together in a friendly way. Once they start school, however, they learn to pay more attention to secondary differences, such as religion, colour, economic background and, here in this country, what caste people belong to. To counter this kind of discrimination, this sense of ‘us’ and ‘them’, we need to cultivate a sense of oneness of 7 billion human beings.” Read the rest of this entry »

Set 22nd, 2019 by admin

Read the rest of this entry »

Set 22nd, 2019 by admin

September 20, 2019. New Delhi, India – Having flown from Dharamsala to Delhi yesterday, this morning His Holiness the Dalai Lama was received at the Shri Ram School, Vasant Vihar, by the Chairperson, Arun Bharat Ram, the director and principal. More than 2400 students from 84 New Delhi schools gave him an enthusiastic welcome. Before taking his seat on the stage, His Holiness lit a lamp and thanked the organizers, Spic Macay, for convening the meeting.

Respected elder brothers and sisters and younger brothers and sisters,” His Holiness began, “it’s a great honour for me to interact with young students who belong to the 21st century. Although we cannot change the past, we can learn from it. Therefore, the future is in your hands. If you make an effort to create a happy society, I believe that within this century you can change the world.

Scientists tell us that basic human nature is compassionate. Clearly, since we are social animals, we should consider all 7 billion human beings as the community we belong to. Thinking just of ‘my nation’ or ‘my people’ is out of date. During the 20th century, thinking of others in terms of ‘us’ and ‘them’ led to division resulting in fighting and killing. Terzo giorno d’Insegnamenti di Sua Santità il Dalai Lama a Dharamsala
Set 7th, 2019 by admin

“ Read the rest of this entry »

September 6, 2019. Thekchen Chöling, Dharamsala, India – This morning, after Thai monks had chanted the ‘Mangala Sutta’ in Pali, a group of lay-people from Indonesia recited the ‘Heart Sutra’ in their language. “Today is the final day of this set of teachings,” His Holiness the Dalai Lama observed. “I was thinking that we could hold a ceremony for generating the awakening mind of bodhichitta at the end as an auspicious conclusion. And since the range and content of Nagarjuna’s text is vast and complex, I thought I would teach Tsongkhapa’s ‘Three Principal Aspects of the Path’, which can be readily applied in practice.

When Atisha came to Tibet he introduced the Kadam tradition that regards the whole content of the Three Collections of Scripture as instructions for practice in terms of persons of three different capacities—small, medium and great. After composing the ‘Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path’, the ‘Medium Treatise’ and the ‘Concise Treatise – the Song of Experience’, Tsongkhapa composed the ‘Three Principal Aspects of the Path’ at the request of Tsako Wönpo, Ngawang Drakpa, a close disciple and leader of the people of Gyalmorong in Eastern Tibet. It’s a useful text to read through every day.” Read the rest of this entry »

dominio oggettivo della saggezza consapevole di sé.
